jess petrylak (b. 1995) is an artist, curator, writer and cultural organizer based in upstate new york. her work moves between installation, poetry, drawing, photography, performance and found materials, often circling girlhood, womanhood, family, memory, regional identity, glamour, grief and the machinery of becoming.

ARTIST STATEMENT
jess petrylak explores the cultural landscape of the early aughts and contemporary america, focusing on the interplay between fame, identity, womanhood and personal grief. drawing from pop culture, celebrity, pageantry, americana and personal mythology, her work examines feminine martyrdom, mysticism, ritual and the ways cultural images become embedded in our understanding of ourselves and each other.
